The 3rd annual BIG PICKUP: ALBANY COMMUNITY ACTION DAY MAY 15, 2010

The City of Albany and Allied Waste are sponsoring a community-wide beautification day on Saturday, May 15, 2010, including the Sunrise neighborhood cleanup, the spring stream cleanup, and Allied Waste’s annual Recycle Roundup. The events together make the third annual Big Pickup: Albany Community Action Day.

The 2009 Big Pickup brought out 308 volunteers who cleaned up 42 tons of trash.  Because you care about where you live, work, and conduct business, this is your opportunity to join other Albany groups and individuals and demonstrate your community pride.

This letter is a special invitation from the Albany City Council to local service, church and civic groups to gather volunteers that Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to noon.  All volunteers are invited to an appreciation lunch when work wraps up.

We need volunteers for beautification projects in the Sunrise neighborhood - picking up litter and landscape maintenance for planting strips and other households in need of assistance.  We welcome suggestions for other projects that day to improve Albany’s appearance.   Volunteers are needed for the river and stream cleanup and invasive plant removal projects as well – you tell us what you’d like to do.

Let us know how many volunteers plan to help out so we can have enough supplies ready. We encourage participating groups to promote your good work by wearing shirts or buttons or other items that let passers-by know your group with Heather Slocum at 541-791-0058 or Heather Slocum. Let us know by Friday, May 7, 2010, the project you’d like to do and how many people will participate.
